  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • Pinch of nutmeg (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Thinly slice the potatoes to about 1/8-inch thick.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Add onions and garlic; sauté until translucent (about 4 minutes).
  3. In a bowl, combine heavy cream with salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
  4. In a greased baking dish, layer half the potatoes, pour half the cream mixture over them, add half the sautéed onions and half the cheese. Repeat with remaining ingredients.
  5. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 20-30 minutes until golden brown.
